As the construction industry has been growing by leaps bounds, there has been an infinite scope for interior designers. Owing to the present scenario, with varied preferences of people, interior designing has come up with challenging and promising career opportunities.

COURSE

The course emphasizes on traditional, contemporary, universal and theme based methods of designing for both residential and commercial sectors. The interior design course offered by the institute aims at creating trained professionals who are able to design creatively, by making a balance between the aspects of beauty and utility.

COURSE CONTENTS

The curriculum is a perfect blend of academics with adequate exposure to the practical field. It enables the students to understand various aspects of Interior Designing. The main focus is on:

TECHNICAL DRAWING

Technical drawing, also known as drafting, is the academic discipline of creating standardized top views and side views of any furniture and buildings by architects, interior designers, drafters, design engineers, and related professionals. Standards and conventions for layout, line thickness, text size, symbols, view projections, descriptive geometry, dimensioning, and notation are used to create drawings that are ideally interpreted in only one way.

DESIGNING SPACE

Design project commences with proper space planning to blend with the environment to provide proper division of peaceful living spaces with maximum utilization keeping the comfort of the user and perception of the interior as a whole. Planning of residence, shop, corporate office, hotel and restaurant are taken up by the students.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

This is related to the type of construction and style of architecture being practiced in modern times. The use of RCC in the contemporary era has been extended to roofs and building columns, beams, lintels etc. Practical knowledge is imparted by site visits. Knowledge of services like sanitation and plumbing is also imparted.

MATERIAL STUDY

Study of material like brick and stone, different types of flooring materials, furnishing, light fixtures and sanitary fittings. Market surveys are conducted to

LANDSCAPING

It is the landscaping that makes space come alive. Various possibilities in landscaping are experimented upon and students are taught to plan space creatively. Landscaping being an inherent part of the site planning it is taught by practical methods in the outdoor.

FURNITURE DESIGN

Furniture design provides students an opportunity to challenge and redefine the boundaries of tradition in order to reconcile with contemporary ideas and changing needs of modern life style.

ESTIMATION

The over all calculation of the single project is budgeted and an estimate is prepared regarding the expenditure. This is mandatory practice for the students as it is the need of the client. An estimate includes cost of each and every construction material, furnishing etc. It has to be prepared and projected to the client at the planning stage.

VISUAL MERCHANDISING

This curriculum intends to teach the students the merchandising of applying arts for commercial use. Students looking for employment can find themselves working for retailers as Visual Merchandiser. Students with the entrepreneurial streak can become Event Managers or Freelance Designers.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

As computer has become an indispensable tool in designing students are introduced to computer aided designing Excel, PowerPoint, 2D, 3D drawings in Auto CAD.

INTERNSHIP

Students are put through an internship period, where they steps into the practical application of the drawing work done by them. This training is of immense importance as it ensures that students gain the maximum from the field. The training period is supervised under the guidance of the faculty. The students often work in close association with Architects and established Interior Designers.

CAREER PROSPECTS

There are innumerable career opportunities like working for Interior Designers and Architects as well as for other Specialists Consultants for Exhibitions, Museums and Graphic Designers. Students can work as Visual Merchandisers, Freelance Designer while students with the entrepreneurial streak may become Event Managers or Set Designers.
