One can also work as Specialists or Consultants for Exhibitions, Museums and Graphic Designers. Visual Merchandising is another viable stream. One can work as a Freelance Designer, and those with an entrepreneurial streak may set up their own Interior Design Firm or even an Event Management company or Production Design House.
Industry Overview
Rapid urbanization and growing consumption has changed the way Indian people do up their homes and offices. It has fuelled the Interiors industry, which provides everything - from design services to customized interiors, creating stylish and trendy spaces according to personal choices and preferences.
One reason that is attributed to the rise in the interior design and decoration industry is the parallel growth of the real estate industry. The demand for professional inputs towards enabling value addition to real estate properties has led to Interior Design’s fragmentation into a variety of specialized micro-disciplines such as Residential Design, Office Design, Retail Design, Exhibition Design, Hospitality Design, Restaurant Design, Farm-House Design etc. A number of international interior decoration brands have now made a foray into the Indian market. The concept has contributed to the trend of reinforcing individuality in interior design and construction.
With the real estate sector expected to grow by 40-45 per cent, the interior designing market in India is fast catching up and is all set to register a 60 per cent growth rate this year.
