Earlier designing was considered more of a vocation but it has gained immense value and has changed into a lucrative career prospect. COURSE

The curriculum develops student's competence in the design and development of Costume Jewellery, Traditional Jewellery and Contemporary Jewellery. It is aimed at understanding design concept, fashion principles, and interpretation of fashion trends, markets, materials, processes and technologies related to jewellery designing.

COURSE CONTENTS

The focus is to develop abilities to apply the above knowledge base with original and creative design with requisite skills of visualization and representation. The programme emphasizes on appreciation and application of traditional Indian jewellery base in contemporary milieu. The syllabus has been planned in a very precise and systematic manner assimilating the aspects of manufacturing technology- design, art, craft, entrepreneurship and soft skill development. The study program is a unique blend of academics and creativity. The program focuses on: -

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN

Computer has become an indispensable part of jewellery design. The students are put through an in-depth knowledge and usage of jewellery related software like Corel Draw, Photoshop, Jewel CAD.

JEWELLERY MANUFACTURING

Techniques of surface ornamentation of Jewellery, basic and intermediate techniques in fabrication include soldering, piercing, and filing metal shapes or fabrication. It includes 4 and 6 prong, cluster, flush, bezel, and gypsy and channel stone settings. Costing and estimation of metal, stone and labor are some of the important aspects of manufacturing which gives detailed knowledge of jewellery. Techniques of surface ornamentation of jewellery - basics and advanced methodologies are taught. Traditional and contemporary techniques are discovered and adapted for modern usages. Jewellery Design Studio is a project-based curriculum with most projects, made in gold and sterling silver with some on--precious metals used in practice pieces. Introduction of wax carving and model making gives the opportunity to design in wax and to see it become gold or silver in a few processes. Casting, molding and finishing the jewellery are the final step.

GEMOLOGY

The knowledge of gem identification includes the knowledge of crystallography, gemstone properties and the use of gem testing instruments. The gem processing provides practical knowledge on sawing, cutting and polishing on colored gemstones. The training widens the horizon for designers.

MARKET STUDY

With the launching of satellites, the world has come closer and we need to have good knowledge of distinctive styles of marketing to cater to the demands of the global market. The course lays emphasis on the design houses of that region. The dynamic market of Jaipur offers an extensive exposure of domestic and international markets like US, UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Middle East.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Jewellery design course is an analytical and in depth program. Research projects such as craft documentation, market survey and design process enable the students to develop rational thinking. They are more resourceful with the art of verbal and non-verbal presentations.

INTERNSHIP

Internship is an acid test of the learning and knowledge acquired by observation at the institute. It is the most important part of practical learning before stepping into the real world of Gem and Jewellery Industry. It gives an extensive understanding of the jewellery trade & mass production. The training period is supervised under the guidance of the faculty who assists and ensures that the students and industry gain the best out of this symbiosis.
