Punjab Government constituted Punjab Technical University in 1997 in response to a shortage of technical manpower and to usher in an era of industrial development comparable to international standards. P.T.U. evolved at a time when the world was undergoing a revolution where technology was the tool. The need of technical education to address job oriented and skill-based courses was the need of the hour.
The ideology of PTU has been to disseminate education not only to its campus but also to spread the phenomenon to the general masses. The university through its distant educational program has filled the void for specialized and vocational courses in inaccessible places.
Today, PTU affiliates more than 122 Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management and Architecture colleges that are approved by All India Council for Technical Education. It has 425 learning centers spread across the country offering technical education in the fields of Information Technology, Fashion Technology, Hotel Management and Tourism, Media and Mass Communication and Journalism.
Arch is an authorized learning center of PTU offering degree course in Jewelry Design, Fashion Technology and Interior Design.
