Course Intent

The 3 years. Jewelry Design Course is structured to provide technical expertise in Jewelry Design, Gemology, Jewelry Manufacturing along with relevant design sensibilities to be able to step into the professional jewelry industry. The course enables awareness of the Socio-Cultural and contextual influences on jewelry, essential in understanding and sustenance of our Indian aesthetic signature. Business studies along with Jewelry Design skills empower the learner to work as a Jewelry Business professional in the industry.

Course Content

The curriculum imparts understanding of Jewelry Design along with Business and Computer skills. Term project at the end of each year showcases the skills learnt and knowledge gained. Fundamentals and nuances of design are explored through group discussions, seminars, workshops, exhibitions, study tours, visits to galleries & museums and industry visits.

Year 1

Learners in first year are introduced to career possibilities in Jewelry industry. They are given an introduction to Gemology, Goldsmithing, Metallurgy and Casting. Basic Jewelry Design, Computer Fundamentals, Jewel CAD and Communication Skills form the basis of Design learning.

Year 2

Advanced Gemology, Jewelry making techniques, designing on CAD, introduction to diamonds and costing form an important part of the curriculum. The course facilitates a significant understanding of Jewelry History and Culture in India as well as materials used in Jewelry. Industry exposure is provided through practical knowledge on Jewelry manufacturing and classroom projects based on brief from the Jewelry industry.

Year 3

Industry orientation is incorporated in the learning through knowledge on Marketing, Professional Practices, Business Plan and Entrepreneurship Development. The course facilitates a significant understanding of Advanced Metallurgy and Gemology, Advanced Jewelry Design and Making, Diamond Grading, Study of International Jewelry Design, Hall Marking and Gem Certification, Jewelry Trends and Forecasts. The acquired skills and knowledge are thus, applied to develop a range of Jewelry Products and eventually build a Jewelry Portfolio.
