SPIC MACAY at Arch Academy of Design

Arch Academy of Design hosted a classical music concert, SPIC MACAY program here at Jaipur Campus on Friday, 28th July 2017, from 3.00 pm-5.00 pm.

SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) is a non-political, nationwide, voluntary movement founded in 1977 by Dr Kiran Seth, Professor-Emeritus at IIT-Delhi who was awarded the 'Padma Shri' for his contribution to the arts in 2009.

Nationally recognized Ms. Arati Ankalikar-Tikekar performed at this event. She is a National Award Winner (best playback singer) for the Konkani film 'Anternaad', for the year 2006. She has also received the Maharashtra State Award (best playback singer) for 'Lavani' in the Marathi film 'De Dhakka' for the year 2008.

She has received the V.Shantaram Award and Maharashtra Times Award for the same as well.

Arati has also performed at many prestigious conferences and many internationally renowned music festivals and Mahotsavs in India, such as the Sawai Gandharva Mahotsav (Pune), the Malhar Utsav (Delhi), Pandit Mallikarjun Mansoor Pranam (Bhopal), the Gunidas Sangeet Sammelan (Mumbai), the Dover Lane Festival (Calcutta), the Shankarlal Festival (Delhi) and at sabhas organized by the Madras Music Academy (Chennai). She has been on concert tours in USA, Canada, UK and UAE.

The Program started with the explanation of important elements of a piece of classical music like "leh", "taal", "bol" and how it is more easy for design students to understand as it includes both the technical and design/creative aspect as well. It was an interactive concert where students were called on stage to sing along with this legendary artist.

Alumni Panel Session by Arch Academy of Design

At the "Alumni Panel Session" we invited our established and well known alumni from the field of Fashion, Interior, and Jewelry Design. The speakers shared their journey talking about their challenges and successes.

They also shared valuable insights on:

-Importance of classroom learning

-Importance of Industry exposure through various projects and internship

-Importance of manual drawing over the knowledge of any software -Ability to work on any level

-How first few years of job or work shape your career Our esteemed speakers included:

Harshad Jain (Fashion Design 2011-13 Batch): Harshad started the brand 'Yukti' in 2015 and has been showing constant growth since then. The brand has recently tied up with Reliance and retails through its own online platform. He is also the Director of his family business Paraskamal, a women's wear brand that retails through Fab India, Ethnicity, Shopper's Stop, Hyper City, Arvind, and Lifestyle.

Aditi Patel (Jewelry Design):Aditi had completed her Design Course at Arch Academy of Design in 2013 and has been working with Amrapali Jewellers since then. She is associated with Legent, which is the international division of Amrapali. Aditi undertakes production merchandising with her current organisation. Her interest areas are customer understanding and design.

Kirit Singhvi (Interior Design):Kirit completed Interior Design from Arch Academy of Design in 2006 and started as an entrepreneur. As his professional experience grew, he got into a job that gave him the opportunity to work with technical buildings with Pyrotech Workspace, which exposed him to working in complex spaces. Then, he moved on to luxury interiors with Sleek International.

The above mentioned established alumni shared without students amazing insights that would go a long way in helping them build a great career.

Arch Orientation Day

Arch's orientation day for two and four year programs was an enriching and fun affair. Students were invited along with their parents to attend the event and know more about Arch and its vision to empower students as design thinkers.

Arch Academy of Design - Orientation Program

The Orientation program took place on the 24th of July for the 3rd Year and 1st Year students. The Honorable Chief Guest was Mr. Devendra Kr. Sharma (RAS), Registrar, University of Rajasthan, where he shared his personal experience of his own daughter and her journey in Jewelry Design career and also talked about importance of practical learning, knowledge of different languages other than English, and the benefits of multidisciplinary learning. Director and Founder Ms. Archana Surana spoke about the inception and 17 years long journey of Arch Academy of Design.
