A thought-provoking masterclass by creative practitioner Kishan Jagota, who urged students to rethink not only how they design, but who they are while doing it.
Jagota opened with the idea that effective communication bridges the familiar and the new, meeting audiences where they are before taking them somewhere unexpected.
Addressing artificial intelligence, he framed it as an "incredible intern": fast and capable, but never the designer in the room. While AI absorbs the formulaic "science" of design and converges toward the most probable answer, human creativity diverges, drawing on emotion, lived context, and taste. His advice: double-check everything and treat prompting as a design discipline.
The second half of the session focused on personal growth. Jagota encouraged students to draw what they don't yet know how to draw, embrace the improviser's "yes, and" mindset, and seek connections between unrelated ideas.
His closing message resonated with the room: stay true to your real personality, and keep your hands busy, heart full, and mind empty.
