DesignAbility a series under ARCH’s Design Culture initiative, aims to figure out the need and the possible ways for introducing Design Thinking and building Design Ability at an early stage amongst educators and learners which would encompass all walks of life, right from schools to higher education, management to governance, nurturing a design leadership. To achieve this ARCH conducts awareness campaigns and sessions for school Principals and counselors. On 15th September 2021 ARCH hosted a session on “The Skill Education within the NEP”. Organized by CBSE and Princess Diya Kumari Foundation (PDKF), the session was for School Executives, towards building Skill Courses for Students from standard VI & above. Dr Biswajit Saha, Director, Skills & Training, CBSE talked about integrating skill education into the curriculum to be a part of the modern education system for class VI onwards. He was of the view that the education system is still revolving around the same conventional subjects and it was essential that students be exposed to real-time lab experiences. By merging skills-based projects into the system, students will be exposed to vocational education where they will get hands-on experience of a sampling of important vocational crafts, such as carpentry, electric work, metalwork, handicrafts, gardening, pottery making, etc. The event was a huge success as over 50 School Principals from around the country participated in the session including Ms. Archana S.Mankotia- MGD, Ms Urvashi Warman -The Palace School, Ms Rita P Taneja- DPS Jaipur, Ms Indu Dubey- Neerja Modi School, Jaipur and representatives from Subodh Public School, MPS, Sanskaar School, Rukmani Birla School. On 8th October 2021, a virtual session on “Design Thinking in Skill Education” was hosted by ARCH for under it’s Designability Series .
