The Design Culture Learning Series (DCLS), an initiative by ARCH College of Design & Business, continues to build on its fifth year of impact-driven dialogue under the overarching theme FORM.REFORM.TRANSFORM. With four compelling subthemes—Creativity 5.0, Society 5.0, Harmonious Livability, and Design Leadership—this year's sessions aim to inspire socially responsible and future-ready design thinking.
Aligned with the World Industrial Design Day observed globally on June 28th, the latest session focused on the subtheme Society 5.0, resonating with this year’s World Design Organization theme, Let’s Get Ethical. It explored how design can create smarter, inclusive, and purpose-driven solutions for society.
The Society 5.0 session featured the following speakers:
Pinky Maheshwari – Founder of Surprise Someone, shared her journey in the session “Design with Purpose – Merging Sustainability, Utility & Empowerment in Rural India”, emphasizing how design can uplift communities by combining environmental consciousness with social impact.
Uma Haimavati Prajapati – Founder of Upasana, conducted a powerful talk on “Tsunamika – Design Revolution for Societal Well-Being”, highlighting the transformative potential of design in post-disaster recovery and community healing.
Gaurav Mandal – Co-founder of Brandment and Pinakigirl, led the session “Designpreneurship – Designing for a Changing Society”, encouraging the next generation of creative entrepreneurs to reimagine their role in addressing social challenges through innovation and branding.
Through the lens of Society 5.0, DCLS continues to champion meaningful design conversations, nurturing an ecosystem where students, educators, and professionals contribute to societal progress with empathy and purpose.
